About the Special Price

On the occasion of the award of the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists, the Axel Springer Akademie is offering a Special Prize of 10,000 euros which, while considering the background of the seminal catastrophe of the First World War, pays particular attention to the following question:

Has Europe changed so much that a return to armed conflict such as that which erupted in 1914 can be ruled out?

Exemplary topics could be…

Arms Shipment or intervene themselves - current challenges seen with the experience of European wars

Europe of nations or Europe of small states - separatism as a historical challenge

Between multiculturalism and ethnic cleansing - have multi-ethnic states as before 1914 in Europe still have a chance?

Realpolitik or policy of appeasement - Europe's dealing with Putin's Russia
